Ugbad Abdi Stuns In Michael Kors’ Spring 2020 Collection Ad Campaign

The hijabi model, considered as the voice of a generation, continues to make her mark on the fashion world.

Hijabi model Ugbad Abdi has landed another high-profile editorial assignment. The young American stunner stars in Michael Kors’s global spring 2020 Collection campaign. Abdi, who has joined the generation of models championing racial diversity, features alongside Dutch beauty Rianne Van Rompaey.

Shot on the grounds of a Beverly Hills estate with the renowned Dutch duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin behind the camera, the campaign “tells a story of timeless American style, focusing on private moments of languid luxury,” according to a statement from the brand known for jet set luxury.

“My spring collection is a celebration of the best of American style,” Michael Kors says.

“The Collection campaign focuses on a mix of ease and glamour that is inherently American, and the layers of sophistication, irreverence and romance found in the images complement that juxtaposition,” the world-renowned, award-winning designer of luxury accessories and ready-to-wear added.

Some of the must-buy pieces from the campaign, which debuts this month, include crisply tailored separates in luxe neutrals and soft, romantic dresses with contrasting plaid and gingham. Additionally, details like stars, stripes and bold dots add to that classic Americana vibe.

Abdi, last year’s breakout modelling star, has followed in the footsteps of other ground-breaking hijabi runway models. The Muslim model making space for her faith in fashion was born in Somalia during the civil war and grew up in a Kenyan refugee camp before moving with her family to Des Moines, Iowa at the age of nine. She was the first model to wear a headscarf during Fendi and Lanvin shows and has been spotted gracing the catwalk for the likes of Valentino and Burberry.
