Top 8 Celebrity Beauty Looks at the 2020 Critics' Choice Awards

These celebrities could have taken home the "best beauty look of the night" if it was on the list of awards...

Lucy Hale

The new decade is starting off strong when it comes to stars supplying night-out beauty inspiration. The most recent batch of celebrity beauty looks to pore over comes from the latest stop on the awards season train, the 25th annual Critics' Choice Awards. As the best film and television stars were being honoured, A-listers really did bring their A-game with some sizzling hair and make-up looks.

While they were shutting down the blue carpet on January 13 at Santa Monica airport’s Barker Hangar, most of the stars confirmed it’s time to say goodbye to pared-back beauty since bold looks are the way to go. From daring cat-eyes, vibrant eye make-up and beauty looks that directly match clothing, set to be a big trend in 2020, to statement red lips, there were some mega looks to be copied right away. Hair-spiration was plentiful as well, including beautiful braids with a cool-girl edge, chic updos, creative hair accessories and flowing locks for those with long hair.

Lucy Hale

Make-up artist Kelsey Deenihan matched Lucy Hale's eye make-up to the gorgeous shade of her mint green dress. It was a subtle take on the colourful eye-make up trend as the shimmery pastel colour was applied only on the inner corners of the eye. Neutral tones on the rest of her face, including a nude brown lip, balanced out the look perfectly. The Pretty Little Liars star topped off all that swagger with a chic and creative hair clip. Hairstylist Kristin Ess pinned back her dark bob with a pearl earring-turned-hair accessory.

Lupita Nyong'o

Not only did master stylist Vernon François create the “Afro clouds” while styling Lupita Nyong'o’s natural hair into a high-rise updo, he creatively adorned the bun by coiling gold around it. The touch of gold matched impeccably with the Kenyan-Mexican Best Actress nominee’s bronze eyeshadow and copper eyeliner. Amazing glowing skin and warm red lipstick were the final ticks to the standout beauty look.

Zendaya

As if Zendaya’s hot pink latex breast plate wasn’t show-stopping enough, she also took to the red carpet in gorgeous metallic fuschia eye make-up. And proving pink eyeshadow is still having a moment, the Euphoria star completed her match-matchy look with lighter pink lips and glowy pink blush. The Best Actress in a Drama Series nominee’s pull out all the stops beauty look was also a masterclass in nailing Gen Z glitz thanks to her risk-taking bum-grazing box braids and super-highlighted skin.

Florence Pugh

Florence Pugh is certainly having a year and the new face on the red carpet proved she’s one to watch with her stunning 90s-inspired beauty look by Naoko Scintu. We can’t get enough of the sparkly silver eyeshadow on the Best Supporting Actress nominee’s lids, along with the icy shimmer on her puckers, which matched her jewelled dress. Hairstylist Peter Lux's swooping updo was another highlight of the Little Women star’s beauty look. The gelled-back wet look with a smooth and silky texture highlighted Pugh’s envy-enducing brows, which were amped up with two shades of pencil.

Jennifer Lopez

As usual, Jennifer Lopez rocked the red carpet with an impeccable beauty look. Her elegant hairstyle was described as “glossy and laid, not sprayed,” by stylist Chris Appleton. Her hair, which was partly pulled back, fell in sleek long curls all the way down her back. When it came to the Hustlers star’s make-up, we were totally on board with the 70s-style Twiggy-like hard-to-miss lashes and those faultlessly sculpted cheekbones. Plus, make-up maven Scott Barnes opted for the right peachy-pink tones to go with those signature nude shades, the shimmering bronzer and glamorous smokey eye.

Awkwafina

Clashing with her yellow dress, the statement red lips spotted on Awkwafina reminded us of her Golden Globes beauty look. The Best Actress nominee was also shining bright thanks to the striking gold-hued eyeshadow. Additionally, we’re planning on copying The Farewell star’s dreamy full-bodied, glossy, cascading waves ASAP. Celebrity stylist Marcus Francis revealed the “flowy vibe” was a nod to 70s glam, epitomised by the likes of Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger. By sweeping it to one side with a golden hairpin, the hairstylist gave the classic hairstyle extra dimension.

Anne Hathaway

Giving birth just weeks ago provided Anne Hathaway with the advantage of turning up with the most gorgeous post-baby glow. Armani Beauty collaborator Molly R. Stern wanted to “enhance that glow and keep her make-up effortless, with a hint of glamour.” Hathaway’s natural-looking make-up included chocolate and gold shades on her eyelids, loads of mascara, a sweep of blusher along her cheeks and what will definitely be our go-to nude pink lip colour. Hathaway, nominated for her role in Modern Love, wore her voluminous and shiny dark hair in choppy waves, while keeping her signature middle part.

Olivia Wilde

When you have beautiful eyes like Olivia Wilde, your beauty look should be all about a dramatic, black cat-eye to enhance them. And beauty buffs surely noted the actress’s wings actually have a tiny bit of open space! To keep the focus on the bold winged eyeliner, the former House star opted for a natural complexion and a pink lipstick. Her lustrous, soft and graceful topknot let her eyes do even more talking.
