Awards season officially kicked off with the 77th Golden Globe Awards Sunday.  And as usual the glitzy event gathered the best, brightest and, to the delight of fashion fans, most stylish stars in Hollywood to celebrate the film industry’s most acclaimed talents

Dark colours reigned when it came to some of the best fashion moments on the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. While Rooney Mara turned heads in a long black Chantilly lace dress with bonded lace peplum by Givenchy, Jennifer Aniston, who was nominated for her role in the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show, made it all about classic Hollywood glamour in a black strapless Dior frock with simple ruffled top and skinny belt.

Additionally, Harriet star Cynthia Erivo revealed her sparkling Thom Browne dress, which took 800 hours to make, had hidden peonies, her favorite flower, sewn on. Upcoming Bond Girl Ana de Armas also looked phenomenal wearing a custom all over navy sequinned strapless ballgown by Ralph & Russo, finished with a soft roll collar and bow belt. Another stunner was Winnie Harlow in her 20s-inspired black and silver fringe dress with revealing slit by LaQuan Smith. A much more modest look came from Awkwafina, the first Asian-American actress to win in a lead actress film category. The Farewell star hit the red carpet in a black Dior jacket and skirt, worn with a dramatic white tulle collar.

The heavily monochromatic mood did involve brighter colours as well, though. Some of the stellar flashes included nominees Scarlett Johansson and Nicole Kidman looking red hot in sultry, strapless crimson gowns. Plus, Priyanka Chopra looked pretty in pink in her off-the-shoulder Cristina Ottaviano gown, while Renée Zellweger, who nabbed the top acting award for her role in Judy, was an elegant pastel princess in her strapless blue gown with thigh-high slit by Armani.

Some other of the biggest sartorial spectacles of the night came from Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift. While the Latina actress and musician, a nominee for her part in Hustlers, chose a festive Valentino gown that featured an oversized gold and emerald green bow, Swift showcased some mega flower power in a custom green and blue floral gown by Etro.

Quite a few fashion-forward A-listers welcomed award season by ditching dresses in favour of trousers. British actress, writer and producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who took home two golden statues for Fleabag, looked effortlessly chic wearing a black Chantilly lace tailleur from Ralph & Russo. The suit featured a silk duchess tuxedo lapel and a geometric black and gold ribbon appliqué finished with hand embellishment. Meanwhile, The Politicians actress Zoey Deutch was a ray of sunshine in a custom Fendi long-sleeved jumpsuit.
