This Much Loved New York Celebrity Hotspot Is Now Open in Dubai

Indochine in New York is an infamous celebrity hotspot everyone wants to be seen at. The legendary and somewhat historically cool restaurant and nightspot, has been a favourite amongst the fashion, music and art high society since 1984, including the likes of Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, and Grace Jones – who were all regulars, and rumour has it that at one particular night there, Carine Roitfeld breakdanced on the floor with Riccardo Tisci.

Earlier this month, Indochine bought its New York chic to Dubai’s DIFC. Jean Marc Houmard, co-owner of Indochine, started as a waiter there some 30 years ago and partnered with UAE based restauranteurs, Khalil Damash and Varun Khemany.

Speaking about his partnership, Houmard stated, “Varun and Khalil understand the key elements that make Indochine iconic: the room will feel sexy without being overly designed, the lighting will be flattering, the staff will be interesting and fashionable, the food will be excellent, and the family-style sharing of dishes will feel festive and convivial.” Mentioning some of the most defining touches of Indochine’s New York DNA, he adds, “Some of the DNA will be present in Dubai, but it will have its own personality. A few of the classic dishes from New York will be on the menu, like the Vietnamese ravioli and the spicy beef salad.”
