Glass Skin: The K-Beauty Trend of the Moment

Beauty lovers are finding the super translucent, poreless, dewy complexion irresistible.

From BB creams to sheet masks and blocky brows, Korean skincare products and trends have been taking the world by storm for a while now thanks to all those innovative new formulas and making the most of some of nature’s most incredible skin-transforming ingredients. And one of the most recent K-beauty trends making waves is glass skin. The look, which took off in Korea in 2013, is a trending hashtag on Instagram and hasn’t ceased to fascinate beauty lovers on social media.

Conjuring up the idea of a crystal-clear piece of glass, the trend is all about glossy, poreless, positively dew dappled and luminous skin. It’s a bit different from honey skin, another K-beauty trend, as it focuses more on a poreless appearance and radiant finish rather than moisture and dewiness.

If you’re gunning to achieve that glowing, seemingly transparent and youthful skin, not to mention refined texture, you’ll need to add some extra time into your beauty routine. Knowing all fabulous results take time, there's a strategic multi-step routine you're advised to patiently (and lovingly) follow. While we all have different skin types, there are some staple products and techniques that work together to give you that gorgeous looking skin you’re aiming for. The glass skin trend is all about double cleansing, exfoliating and layering lightweight, hydrating and brightening skin care products.

While revealing every single step of her skincare routine for glass skin on social media, Ellie Choi went viral due to everyone appreciating her newborn baby-like skin. Check it out below:

First, the aspiring Los Angeles-based make-up artist, who said she has combination skin, used make-up remover wipes to swipe off any make-up on her face. Then Choi uses a facial cleanser to remove any excess oil, grime and make-up, making sure to use a product that doesn’t dry the skin. And every other day, the make-up artist exfoliates after cleansing to give her a "healthy, natural glow." Next, she reaches for toner to remove any last bits of dirt to help make sure her skin is ultra clean, and finally she dabs on a dollop of moisturiser. Additionally, Choi uses a sheet mask once or twice a week.  She has also said eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking lots of water everyday and avoiding fried food as it affects her skin have all played a part.
