Whether it's rainbow or sunset hues that put you in an instant good mood, then a youthful kaleidoscope of colours on your nails is well worth trying. Kendall Jenner has showed off a bold and whimsical look that included red, orange, blue, green and yellow nail polishes. And if you’re like Rihanna and want to celebrate a special occasion with a really fun, different and fashion forward mani, a joyful arrangement of colours seems to be the perfect answer too. While celebrating turning 31, the queen of manicures had each of her tips in a different coloured base and French tip combination.

The great news is as well as not having to spend an embarrassing amount of time painstakingly choosing just one colour, the “Skittles” manicure is very easy to DIY. The trick is to choose the right candy shades that go together as well as the best order for an aesthetically pleasing look. Bettina Goldstein, a Los Angeles-based editorial nail artist, usually uses the same shade family, however she told Elle there aren’t any hard and fast rules to perfecting the look. "It doesn't necessarily have to be just like light to dark. I always like to do like one pop of like a random colour. So, I did green ones and then a yellow," she said. "It's in the similar wheelhouse, but just a little bit off. So, it adds that extra umpfh to it," she said.
