Selena Gomez Joins Celebrity Beauty Club

The multi-hyphenate star is adding beauty biz to her résumé.

We’ve had the likes of Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga, and now it’s Selena Gomez’s turn to join the ever-growing list of pop stars launching their own beauty lines.

The Wolves singer filed for her own beauty trademark under her production company, July Moon Productions, last month with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. According to various reports, the line of beauty products includes fragrances, cosmetics, skincare, haircare, essential oils, incense, nail products and others. However, exactly when the line will be available, a detailed catalogue of items or where fans will be able to buy them have not been confirmed yet.

This isn’t the first time the multi-talented star, who hasn’t commented on her new venture yet, has forayed into the beauty business. She released Selena Gomez Eau de Parfum, which included a raspberry top note, freesia in the middle and vanilla for the base, in 2012. Gomez launched the perfume that was created based on suggestions by her fans with Givaudan perfumers, followed by her second fragrance Vivamore in 2013.

Plus, of course, the 27-year-old popster and The Dead Don't Die actress is a brand ambassador for luxury fashion brand Coach and athletic wear company Puma. She collaborated with Coach in 2018 to create accessories and a ready-to-wear collection and has done the same with Puma, working on a capsule collection of gear, shoes and accessories. Before that, Gomez introduced her Dream Out Loud Kmart collection in 2010.

Gomez is the latest to join a number of celebrities who have delved into the beauty industry. Young billionaire Kylie Jenner launched Kylie Cosmetics in a direct-to-consumer model near the end of 2015, while her half-sister Kim Kardashian also has a namesake brand. Rihanna came out with Fenty Beauty, which became famous for its inclusive foundation shade range, in September 2017. Lady Gaga joined the club this July when she launched Haus Laboratories, the first to exclusively sell on Amazon. Plus, fellow singer Ariana Grande has named a beauty line after her hit song and album, Thank U, Next. The first product is a fragrance with the same name, which will be released on August 18 with Ulta Beauty.
