Elissa x Bassam Fattouh: A Match in Make-Up Heaven

The go-to make-up artist to some of the Arab world’s most prominent public figures and royalty chose colours created of “love, glamour and stardom” for his collaboration with songstress Elissa.

Bassam Fattouh was the first to launch an all-out advertising campaign in the region, as well as one of the first to get more creative with pops of colour. Then by 2010 the renowned Lebanese make-up artist reached a high spot in his career when he launched his beloved cosmetics range, Bassam Fattouh Cosmetics.  Fast forward to today, “The Star” eyeshadow palette is the brand’s new ultra special addition as it’s the make-up maven’s collaboration with popular Lebanese signer Elissa.

The celebrity make-up artist and award-winning singer have been working together for over 20 years, so they have naturally become good friends. “I have meticulously chosen each and every shade and each one of them tells a story and hides a special memory with my dearest Elissa,” Fattouh, who has collaborated with Clarins and Dior, said about the palette on the Bassam Fattouh Cosmetics website.

The palette features 18 shades, including a captivating blue and silver,  and it has “new and innovative formulas and textures,” Fattouh revealed to Vogue Arabia. He also said, “We thought of an eyeshadow palette specifically, because Elissa is known for the beauty of her eyes and the smokey eye make-up look seen on her most times.”

As well as the carefully chosen hues in “The Star” palette, there was a lot of thought put into the product design and the names, like Smokey, Loyalty and Triumph. And being the true perfectionist he is, it took Fattouh, who has worked with A-listers like Haifa Wehbe, Najwa Karam, Mona Abou Hamze and Jessica Azar, around a year and a half to finalise the product.

When it’s time for his make-up fans to rock it, the make-up whizz advises, ”Always blend very well the colors on the eye, the less pigment on the brush the better,” during his interview with Vogue Arabia.  “Try to use the glitter and shimmery shades with the fingers instead of the brush to get a better pay-off.”

Fattouh, who recently gave a masterclass during Lebanon’s JamaloukiCon fashion and beauty festival with the gorgeous Lea Bou Chaaya, has created a mix of star products for his cosmetics line. They include strobing highlighters, a blush tint, a baked illuminator, eyeliners, a BB cream, plus accessories and best sellers like Backlighting All Over Glow and Haifa’s Lips lipstick.
