Dolce & Gabbana Gets Inclusive with Sizing

Major luxury brands haven’t always been known to be outwardly inclusive of plus sizes, despite dressing celebrities who come in all shapes and sizes. However, with so much conversation surrounding body positivity, fashion, ethnic diversity, modesty and a plethora of other fashion related topical issues, it wasn’t going to be long before a luxury brand cottoned on to what women are demanding.

Most luxury fashion houses, including Dior, Chanel and Gucci, often only carry sizes up to UK 16 – and when its Italian or French, you have to give or miss a few inches. Understanding the need to encourage and empower body positivity, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have become the first luxury brand to have taken the inclusive move to extend their size range to a UK 22.

The globally renowned Italian luxury brand said in a statement, “Dolce & Gabbana has been in love with feminine sensuality in all its forms from the beginning. Beauty is not a matter of clothing size, it is a state of mind, an attitude – that certain something that makes each woman enchanting and unique. By extending the collection’s clothing size range, Dolce & Gabbana pays tribute to women, the female form and beauty at its finest.”

Now, with their new sizing range, the brand will actively work with more plus sized models for their forthcoming ad campaigns and fashion shows, including Tess McMillan and Ashley Graham, having previously worked with models of all shapes in past runway shows.

Dolce & Gabbana have already implemented their new size range extension for their pre-fall ’19 collection. Also, having been at the center of controversy last year, could the brand be coming back in a major way with this progressive move?
