Cannes Film Festival 2019: The Best Red Carpet Looks

Whether it’s the jaw-dropping high jewellery or the princess-like gowns, there’s already been so much glitz and glamour at the two-week film and fashion extravaganza.

France’s ritzy Côte d'Azur is brimming with star power thanks to the 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival, which kicked off on May 15. In addition to screenings and premieres of amazing movies, the festival is where you’re bound to spot countless celebrities enjoying the sunshine in elegant outfits before hitting the fabled Croisette red carpet in show-stopping designer gowns. The swankiest event can also always be relied upon when it comes to megawatt glamour in the jewellery department.

The first evening saw the much-anticipated premiere of the zombie thriller The Dead Don't Die. Selena Gomez, who acts in the movie and made a triumphant Cannes debut, channeled Madonna in a silky white two-piece ensemble with a crop top bustier and quilted skirt with a high-leg slit and belt. To complete her Old Hollywood glam look, she wore a striking oversized geometric diamond necklace and stud earrings. Meanwhile, Thai superstar Araya A. Hargate stunned crowds in a lavender ombré plissé tulle ball gown, featuring a voluminous tiered skirt and crystal chainmail bodice. American Actress Elle Fanning, the 21-year-old who happens to be the festival’s youngest jury member in history, also showed why she’s a style star to watch. Her pale-peach V-neck satin dress featured a theatrical cape and a purple floral embellished belt. And to go with her gorgeous green dress, Julianne Moore wore earrings set with pear-shaped emeralds and diamonds and a matching ring, as well as a diamond necklace.

A trio of Brazilians were among some of the chicest stars who were dressed to the nines at the Les Miserables premiere. Model Alessandra Ambrosio commanded attention in a daring fiery red number, which she teamed with pendant earrings set with rhodolite and paved with diamonds on pink gold and a matching ring. She mixed them with a vintage pompon bracelet from 1946, paved with diamonds on yellow gold. Lifestyle and fashion Influencer Silvia Braz opted for a cheerful pink creation, which she offset with a pavé diamond choker in 18-carat white gold with link-like motif and matching asymmetrical earrings. Then there was blogger Thassia Naves rocking a deep lavender and ruby metallic lurex dégrade gown, featuring an asymmetric bodice and sash.

The premiere of Rocketman, a film about Sir Elton John's breakthrough years, was another star-studded affair with lots of glitz. Priyanka Chopra, another superstar to walk her first red carpet for the French film festival, dazzled in a gown covered in tiny black crystals and bigger bronze ones around the torso. The strapless dress had a crocodile-scale effect thanks to the silk duchesse embroidered dégrade material. Fellow Indian Deepika Padukone made a dramatic entrance in a white dress that featured exaggerated shoulders, massive bow detail and an extremely long train. Another brunette beauty was Bella Hadid, who looked angelic in a frothy pale pink semi-sheer strapless dress with spirally tiered tulle. She accessorised it with head-turning drop diamond earrings, a matching ring and a cuff bracelet that stood out with sapphire, emeralds and diamonds.
