Max Azria, Founder of BCBGMAXAZRIA Passes Away



Marking another great loss to the fashion industry, Tunisian-born fashion designer, Max Azria passed away on 6th May 2019. Azria, the founder of his eponymous label, BCBGMAXAZRIA, sadly passed in hospital in Houston as reported by WWD Magazine, from lung cancer.

Born in Sfax in Tunisia, Max Azria moved to France as a teenager and began his career selling American jeans and went on to manage his family’s clothing manufacturing enterprise. In 1981, Azria moved to LA, where he launched Jess, a chain of multi-label stores. 8 years later, in 1989, Max launched BCBG, “bon chic, bon genre”, which is French for “good style, good attitude”.

The brand has been a monumental success since and has been seen worn by the likes of Selena Gomez and Kim Kardashian. In the prime of his designing career, BCBGMAXAZRIA was sold in every major department store and had over 500 standalone boutiques around the world. He also had his Maz Azria Atelier line which has been seen on the red carpet adorned by Sharon Stone, Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry.
