Maysooma Jalil Hashim
An ensemble is never really complete without the perfect make-up, something celebrities understand very well. They all have a favourite make-up artist they rely on when it comes to looking their best at events and photo shoots. And Maysooma Jalil Hashim takes one of the top spots on our list of the most famous make-up artists in the region.
The Bahraini make-up maven, who worked at MAC Cosmetics for seven years, has become one of the GCC and Middle East’s most respected and influential artists. Hashim, who has an impressive 842,000 followers on Instagram, has been praised for the looks she creates for regional A-listers, including Emirati singer Ahlam Al Shamsi’s flattering make-up on “The Voice.” She is also on the contacts lists of global stars like Paris Hilton and Olivia Palermo, who give her a tinkle when they are jetting into the region.
Hashim’s innate understanding of what the contemporary Arab woman wants has undoubtedly helped her success story. “People’s taste in make-up is changing,” she told “Vogue Arabia.” “Europeans and Americans are being inspired by Arab beauty and vice versa. Beauty is all about giving people self-confidence.”

She is renowned for highlighting her customers’ eyes with standout eyeliner and XXL lashes and definitely isn’t opposed to applying a burst of colour on eyelids, whether its purple, aquamarine or pink. Immaculate skin is another recognisable trademark from the talented make-up artist. And Hashim believes it is her make-up brushes that play an integral role in helping to create the gorgeous looks.
As well as continually engaging her followers on social media, including her extremely popular YouTube channel, Hashim has been busy teaching masterclasses. Some of her most recent workshops have seen her talk to make-up aficionados in Riyadh, Amman and Cairo. Plus, she has one planned at the end of April in her home country with Lebanese celebrity make-up artist Hamza Slim (Bouba), who is behind Beautique by Bouba.
What’s more, anyone who is getting married or has a big event in Bahrain, will be thrilled to know Hashim has recently opened a beauty salon. Called Makeup Art (@masoomaproteam), the salon is located in Sanad, where she comes from.
