AboutHer Wins Best News Website at the 2019 WAN-IFRA Awards

In honor and recognition of its original digital media presence and in-depth features, online portal AboutHer has been awarded the title of Best Website or Mobile Services at the 2019 World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) Middle East Digital Media Awards. The award ceremony, which is one of the most prestigious recognitions of best-practice innovation in digital publishing worldwide, honors the most innovative projects in the field every year.

In recognition of the advancements that have been made by Saudi Arabian women over the past few years and the continued efforts by the regional team at AboutHer to highlight these achievements, Editor-in-Chief Mohammed Fahad Al-Harthi said: “This has indeed been a transformative period for Saudi Arabia as it strives to support its women and improve their access, opportunities, and rights across the board, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.”

“Our team at AboutHer has been working for the past two years on providing balanced and detailed coverage regarding the various accomplishments by the country’s talented women. By nurturing their passions and vision, we at AboutHer aim to support Saudi women as they continue to break barriers not only for themselves but also for us all,” he continues, “It is because of their determination and vision that we have been awarded this prestigious accolade, and we hope to always be there with them on their inspirational journey for years to come.”

Launched in January 2017, AboutHer is a website dedicated to covering stories that highlight the roles and realities of women in Saudi Arabia that often go unmentioned, with the ultimate aim of broadening the narrative of Saudi women in the media. From sports, to film, to lifestyle, to stories that inspire, AboutHer addresses the contributions and important role of Saudi women in the Kingdom’s advancement and journey towards modernization.

Now in its third year, AboutHer continues to publish award-winning features, nuanced news pieces, detailed profiles, inspirational interviews, and its 100 Leading Saudi Women list, offering an intimate look into the lives of Saudi and Arab women, as well as continually seeking to unearth and celebrate home-grown and international talents.

WAN-IFRA's Digital Media Awards are held throughout the year in every major region in the world. The winners of the Middle Eastern Awards competition are automatically eligible for WAN-IFRA’s World Digital Media Awards, which recognize the very best digital initiatives globally. The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, which is the body behind the award ceremony, is the global organization of the world’s press. It derives its authority from its global network of 3,000 news-publishing companies and technology entrepreneurs, and its legitimacy from its 80-member publisher associations representing 18,000 publications in 120 countries.
