Since they were spotted in matching street style looks at a Chanel show during a Paris Fashion Week, Simi & Haze, or Sama and Haya Khadra, have been considered fashion icons. The Saudi-born Palestinian identical twins were just 14. What’s more, the It girls, who were raised in London and lived in Dubai for high school, have undoubtedly made it as in demand DJs.
With a mum who is an interior designer and an art collecting dad, it isn’t a surprise the 25-year-olds have a double major in Film Production and Fine Art from the University of Southern California. Graduating in the top two percent of their class was an ultra impressive feat though, because they had so much more going on than the other students. They were busy with DJ gigs, like when they played at Coachella and hung out with friends like Bella Hadid, Hailey Baldwin, Kylie Jenner and Sofia Richie. Plus, they were hopping from country to country for modelling jobs and fashion weeks. Used to this nomadic lifestyle since they were 15, the sisters would do their work on planes and in hotels, or even on shoots.
With a 846,000-strong following, the artists and DJ duo, known as SimiHaze, are an Instagram sensation thanks to their impeccable and eccentric fashion and beauty choices. If you need any inspiration to help you live in the moment, all you need to do is scroll through their interesting, fun, bold and colourful snaps. “We dress and wear make-up as if the world is ending tomorrow,” Simi, who wore a yellow silk top, jean shorts and Chanel combat boots under her graduation gown, told "Vogue." The outfits and make-up choices also need to make the sisters feel happy.
Simi & Haze, the faces of some carefully selected fashion campaigns, are equally experimental when it comes to music. They simply feel the energy around them. Known for their love of slow jams, they mix genres like Afrobeat, dancehall and baile funk. And they just know they’re onto something good if they find themselves bopping to the beat.
Whether they are sitting front as attendees or DJing at fashion shows, it’s all about ignoring the rulebook and expressing themselves and their message through different artistic mediums. “Pushing the limits on what’s out there has always been our main interest,” Haze told Vogue.
