Ouhood Saud: Award-Winning Interior Designer and Inventor

Ouhood Saud

Aspiring to be the best in her field, creative interior designer Ouhood Saud believes that the first step to success is loving your subject, that ambition has no limits, and that women excel over men when it comes to design.

Tell us about yourself? What should people know?
I graduated from King Abdulaziz University where I majored in Interior Design. I have worked hard to establish my name, and I’m currently doing freelance work while working on establishing my own company.

You have received a number of awards and honors; which are you most proud of?
Receiving the bronze medal in the Olympics for Innovation and Pioneering Scientific Research was my greatest achievement to date. I was nominated to represent the King Abdulaziz University in the Geneva International Expo for Innovation, and in the International Expo for Higher Education in Riyadh.  I received second place in the Fifth Scientific Forum for Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the King Abdulaziz University, and was chosen to be ambassador for the Prince Naif Chair for Moral Ethics.

What is an International License for Pioneering Inventions?
The International License for Pioneering Inventions is presented to individuals who have passed the licensing test and have developed an invention or pioneering idea. My inventions were a fire resistant jacket and a fire extinguisher developed using nanotechnology.

You have created designs for a number of businesses; tell us about them.
I have created designs for several businesses, including a  mall Coffee Shop,  the redesign of a coffee shop for a famous hotel, and  designing parts of a burger restaurant.

What was your first design project, and which was your most challenging?
My first design project was a villa, and although each design project is a challenge, my greatest challenge was redesigning the coffee shop, due to the small space and client requirements.  Designing from scratch is always easier than redesigning an existing space.

What obstacles have you encountered?
I haven’t encountered any major challenges, but I have had my design abilities tested working to combine my vision with the requirements and budget of the client.
