Pretend To Be a Flintstone for the Weekend at This Bedrock-Style Retreat

Meet The Rockhouse Retreat, Britain's only habitable cave house.

This structure is 800 years old, and is said to be was hand-sculpted from 250 million year old Triassic sandstone.  The last time it was occupied was in 1962, however back then it had no electricity or water.

Angelo Mastropietro stumbled upon the cave house 10 years earlier when sheltering from the rain on a bicycle ride, and decided to buy it. Mr. Mastropietro was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2007 and from then he needed to change his complete lifestyle, purchasing this cave house was a huge part of that life alteration.

The cave house had to undergo several amendments in order for it to be habitable again. It was excavated for expansion, an artesian well was added, and electricity supplied to it. The prehistoric property is perched in a picturesque forested valley near Kidderminster, Worcestershire. It has one bedroom, sitting room, kitchen and bathroom.

The sitting room and bedroom have wood burning stoves, and the cave has under-floor heating in the bathroom, a king-sized bed and stone-age paintings to fit the theme.
