Illustrator Mahmoud Tammam Brings Words to Life

What’s in a word? These playful illustrations that match their literal meaning.

Egypt-based graphic designer and architect Mahmoud Tammam creates simple modifications of Arabic words that change language into pictures. He calls them experimental illustrations and collectively refers to them as a “typography project that transforms Arabic words into the shape of their meanings.”

The designer often chooses words that refer to animals or easily recognizable objects. Aside from being a brilliant project for Arabic speakers to enjoy, just purely from a vial standpoint, these works could also come in handy for kids or people who are learning Arabic.

Simple – and simply brilliant, right?
