Receiving the award means that “Surviving Hijab” will obtain monetary support to grow and aide more hijab-wearing women across the world. Facebook’s community leadership program was created to inspire, offer up a platform to community global leaders, and provide financial support to assist them in raising awareness for their causes. Out of 6000 applicants for the award, Manal Rostom’s initiative, “Surviving Hijab” made the cut. Supporting everything hijabi, Manal wears a t-shirt featuring the name of her Facebook group and an icon of a hijab emoji which was created by Rayouf Alhumedhi.
