Saudi Women Take on Key Positions at Jeddah Municipality

Mayor of Jeddah, Saleh Al-Turki, has most recently appointed 4 women to key positons within the municipality in an effort to encourage female empowerment within Saudi Arabia’s local governments.

The women being offered such positions are set to inspire other municipalities within the kingdom to do the same in hopes to increase female contribution to the growth of local communities.

Al Turki told Arab News, “Jeddah is a big city that is even growing bigger and we need to keep up with this growth. I have actually appointed qualified people of both genders in a number of departments in the municipality,” further stating that the metropolis provides services to all local nationals, regardless of their gender.

The women appointed are Maryam Ahmed Abu Al-Aineen, Rasha Ghazi Al Muhanna, Hiba Hussein Al-Balawi, and Amani Mahmoud Abdul-Karim.

Abu Al-Aineen will be heading the Female Municipality Branch – previously known as The Municipality’s General Directorate for Female Services. Al Muhanna has been appointed director of Dhahban branch municipality, Al-Balawi head of Al-Sharafiyah central municipality, and Abdul-Karim will oversee the performance of all four municipalities in Central Jeddah — Sharafiyah, historical Jeddah, Old Airport and Al-Balad.

The mayor has also established branches of the municipality in North Obhur, Abrag Al-Raghama and Khuzam zones.
