6 Female Leads Who Aced their Roles in Heels

Perhaps the most questionable aspects of Bryce Dallas Howard’s character in Jurassic World was her choice of wearing high heels when running from dinosaurs. Even when Chris Pratt questioned her fashion for adventure, she she stuck with them. Howard also defended her choice in shoes, and she’s not the only one. Here's a list of hardcore movie actresses that stuck with the heels, action movie or not:

Anne Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises

While Anne Hathaway’s portrayal of Catwoman did away with most of the shiny leather and cat ears, the heels remained. Given how many action-packed scenes she shares with Christian Bale’s take on Batman, it’s a bold decision to keep the heels when you’re kicking butt across Gotham City.

Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore, and Cameron Diaz in Charlie’s Angels

The movie version of the Angels trio wore a multitude of outfits in their action-packed adventures, but still seemed to wear high heels for several scenes of punching and kicking. That fact alone is equally as impressive as the film’s bombastic stunts and fights.

Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street

Margot Robbie looked stunning in the role of Naomi Lapaglia, Jordan Belfort’s sexy wife. But how could anyone forget that brilliant scene where she denies Jordan pleasure, shoving her heel into Leonardo DiCaprio’s face. It may be one of the most dominant movie scenes where a woman’s heels control the protagonist.

Emma Stone in La La Land

La La Land is staged as an old-fashioned musical and Emma Stone brandished many bright and colorful outfits. And most of them featured her wearing stunning heels to match her sleek green dress for a date and a royal blue dress fit for a party. That being said, she’s not above slipping them off and swapping out for a dance number with Ryan Gosling.

Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz

Easily the most iconic heels in all of cinema, Judy Garland slipped into the sparkling ruby slippers that had the power to send her back to Kansas, a mere three clicks away. About 6-7 different pairs were made for the film, at size 5 and 6 and widths between B and D, and had about 2,300 sequins per shoe.

Lily James in Cinderella (2015)

Of course, the only heel more iconic than Dorothy’s red slippers is Cinderella’s glass slippers. Lily James wore them well in Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella, though her feet weren’t the best fit as Swarovski’s crystal heels weren’t built for any human foot. To solve this problem, Lily wore a leather heel with computer graphics added in to create the effect of her wearing a glass slipper that was seemed to look comfortable.
