Fashion in the Fast Lane

The dual carriageway is hardly a catwalk on which to display your latest fashion purchase and it’s highly unlikely your attire will be noticed as you sit in the driver’s seat of your car. However, there are some fabulous items you can wear to make your drive an easy one offering more traction, comfort or road visibility. If you’re going to take driving seriously, you’ll need the correct motoring attire to enhance your journey and offer more than just “fashion in the fast lane”.

Eyewear

Specialist driving goggles were all the rage in the 1900s and a necessity whilst driving open top cars to avoid any oncoming dust or grit. Nowadays, we are more than spoilt for choice with sunglasses options from a variety of luxury and non-luxury brands and it is important that you invest in a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from light and excessive glare. Select a pair of shades that won’t compromise your peripheral vision; Aviators are a popular choice and suit most face shapes due to their light frame and minimal profile. However, it might be best to avoid pink, blue and green lenses whilst driving as they can make red lights seem unclear.

Driving Gloves

Driving gloves seem to be a rare choice for attire these days, but they are still extremely popular amongst certain circles. Leather driving gloves add an air of vintage sophistication, whilst also allowing your “glove box” to fulfill its purpose, and are also particularly useful whilst driving.

The right gloves will allow an enhanced grip on the wheel, increasing your sense of control during your drive. Opt for butter soft leather styles in a striking color.

Fancy Footwork

It’s not exactly comfortable to walk in heels at the best of times let alone drive in them! It is vital to wear the correct footwear whilst driving, to maintain control whilst putting the pedal to the metal. The concept of “driving shoes” came about in the 1960’s by Gianni Mostile, the founder of the Original Car Shoe – which are perfect for those of you ready to get into the driver’s seat. The idea of the shoe was that it was luxurious, yet comfortable and practical, and the Italian company still offers suede and leather styles offering both comfort and grip. Your wardrobe will thank you for the shoes’ on trend, loafer style.
