Two Sisters from Saudi Arabia Get Behind the Wheel To Help Raise $1 Million

Created in 2011 with a vision to change the world, Cash & Rocket is non-profit organization and platform that has over the years invited some of the world’s most influential women to get behind the wheel and embark on a philanthropic road trip. Each year, 40 red cars and 80 influential women from across the globe are handpicked to join the tour and, this year, two Saudi Arabian sisters are amongst those that have been selected by the platform.

Noor and Farah Taher will be joining the over 1,100-kilometer, 4-day drive from San Francisco to Las Vegas in the United States, in an attempt to help raise awareness and $1 million in funds for three inspirational women’s and children’s charities. The sisters will be joined by other like-minded women such as Destiny’s Child Michelle Williams for an empowering adventure, just two weeks before the official date when women in Saudi Arabia will be allowed to drive for the first time in decades.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, Noor Taher shared her thoughts on the much-anticipated date, saying, “It’s a milestone. A deeply symbolic one that will shine light on the powerful, intelligent and independent minds Saudi women have and what they are capable of accomplishing. Being behind the wheel is just beginning.”

Earlier this week, 10 women were issued driving licenses in Saudi Arabia ahead of the official June 24 date, with 2,000 more licenses expected to be issued next week. Last September, the Kingdom announced that it was rescinding the decades-old ban, a move that is seen as part of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s Vision 2030 plan and his push to bring back the more moderate Islam of Saudi Arabia’s past.
