Actor Jason Momoa, famously known as Khal Drogo, leader of the Dothraki in HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones, spent a few days in Saudi Arabia with his trainer Egyptian pro-wrestler Mada Abdelhamid, and a photo posted by Abdelhamid of the two during their stay has quickly gone viral.
The picture shows the two friends feasting on a mouthwatering spread of traditional Saudi cuisine, sitting cross-legged in front of a massive tray of mothabba, a rice and chicken based dish.
"Now this is what I call a FEAST!!!!! Eating like kings over here in Saudi Arabia. We literally couldn't move afterwards.... but we couldn't stop eating either. Very fitting that we were over here during thanksgiving, our stomachs felt right at home," Abdelhamid wrote in his Instagram caption.
Got a chance to take @prideofgypsies to try some food from my motherland, Egypt, while we're here in Saudi Arabia. Even though we're not in Egypt, they had all my favorites! Then we went out to a desert called Thumama, which was just insane. Videos don't do it justice! P.s that dessert in the video was fucking UNREAL!!!!! It's called Konafa.... aka #CarbComa
Abdelhamid and Momoa were in Riyadh from the 23rd of November 23 to the 25th as part of Comic Con Arabia, a three-day multi-genre pop-culture convention that started in California for fans of superheroes, science fiction TV shows, and the like. Momoa recently played Aquaman in the film Justice League, which was just released this November.
According to the CIC website, the event was organized at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing “together creators, experts, artists and celebrities, including stars of some of the most popular movies and television shows such as Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones, Lost Girl and Underworld: Awakenings, who travelled all the way from different parts of the world to meet their growing number of fans in the country.”
38-year-old Momoa said he had gained at least 5 kilos in Saudi Arabia, thanks to the Kingdom’s hospitality and delicious food. Talking to Arab News during a break between his autograph and photoshoot session with fans, the star said that the “food in Saudi Arabia is good. I missed Thanksgiving at home, so this was a true substitute.”
Momoa also posted a photo of Najd Village, a beautifully designed Saudi restaurant in Riyadh with traditional interiors and menu, saying in the caption: “Mahalo Saudi Arabia you treated me like royalty Aloha to the fans and new friends. I had so many amazing experiences. I’ll be back very soon. Mahalo omar for fattening me up, the food here is amazing @najdvillagesa aloha j.”
