The Emirati Female Doctors To Note This Emirati Women’s Day

In light of Emirati Women’s Day, which falls annually on 28th August, AboutHer.com are celebrating some of the UAE’s unsung female heroes worth knowing about.

Some of those are women in the medical field; from saving lives to conducting research that can alter medicine and treatments forever, Emirati women are trailblazers when it comes to science and the medical industry.

These are the Emirati female doctors to celebrate this Emirati Women’s Day…

Dr. Mona Abdulaziz Khashwani

Dr. Mona Abdulaziz Khashwani, of Sharjah’s Al Qassimi Women and Children’s Hospital is the country’s first Emirati physician to perform robotic surgery. A specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, Khashwani graduated from London’s Queen Mary University in 2005 and was then nominated by the hospital’s Director of Laparoscopic Operations and Robotic Surgery Program, to join the women robotics surgeons’ program. The Emirati doctor performs total hysterectomy, supra-cervical hysterectomy and the operations to remove of fibroid tumors, ovarian cysts, and adhesions, among others.

Dr. Deena Al Qedrah

The UAE's only female vascular surgeon, Dr. Deena Al Qedrah, is also the recipient of the 2014 prestigious Dubai Excellence Award presented by the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Dr. Deena graduated in 1995 and has been in her field of medical science for over 2 decades.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani

Dr. Farida Al Hosani became the first Emirati female to join the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Framework (PIP Framework) Advisory Group as a Member for the period 2022-2024. An infectious disease expert and executive director of infectious diseases at the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (APHC), the region’s first dedicated Centre protecting the physical, mental and social wellbeing of Abu Dhabi residents by raising public and preventative healthcare awareness. She is noted for playing an integral role in the UAE’s response to the pandemic, becoming a pioneering figure and adding to a long list of Emirati females engaged at an international level within their related fields.

Dr. Omniyat Al Hajeri

Dr Omniyat Al Hajeri is the executive director of the Community Health Sector at Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, and was a strong leading figure at the forefront of the UAE’s fight against Covid-19.

Prior to the pandemic, Dr Al Hajeri, a mother of six, was working as the director of public health and research at the Abu Dhabi Health Authority- when Covid19 reached the UAE, she became responsible for helping communities through the pandemic. Dr. Al Hajeri trained for her MPH-DrPH program with Johns Hopkins and the Abu Dhabi Government Leadership development program with coaches from Harvard , INSEAD, Oxford Business school, Cambridge Leadership Associates among others.
