A Muslim, Female Marvel

Ms. Marvel: A Muslim female superhero who could soon be hitting our movie screens.

Ms. Marvel

Boss of Marvel says that their production house is looking into making a film based on the female heroine, Ms. Marvel, who happens to be Muslim.

Marvel is a franchise that has grown and boosted its presence in the movie industry over the last 10 years, from Iron Man in 2008, to 2018’s groundbreaking movies, Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

Fans of the Marvel franchise may be in for a treat in the near future with a new female superhero joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to a spokesperson. President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has hinted at the introduction of a Muslim female superhero, Ms. Marvel to the silver screen, especially since 2017’s Marvel movie, Wonder Woman was such a monumental global success.

He also suggested, in his interview with the BBC that the film may be centered around a teen character, Kamala Khan in their next project following Marvel’s upcoming production, Captain Marvel, which is scheduled for release in 2019.

Kevin Feige told the BBC, “Captain Marvel‘s shooting right now with Brie Larson. Ms. Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works. We have plans for that once we’ve introduced Captain Marvel to the world.”

Sana Amanat

Ms. Marvel, now becoming known as the first female Muslim superhero, has been penned and created by writer and editor, Sana Amanat who is a Pakistani-American. She became inspired to create the character after feeling that there was a lack of diversity when she was growing up in her hometown of New Jersey.

It is rumored that Amanat may play her own creation, Ms. Marvel in the movie following international praise on social media, with many applauding the Marvel franchise for representing young Muslim women and recognizing their existence within Hollywood.
