The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, one of fashion's biggest events that draws in around 800 million viewers around the globe, has always been infused with razzmatazz. But this year’s event, which took place in Shanghai on Monday, marked its 20th anniversary and has been described as "bigger than ever before." While talking to “People” magazine, Ed Razek, Executive Producer of the show termed it as “the biggest fashion event in history and our most ambitious show by far.” He also said this year’s sparkly spectacle starred 55 models, which is more than ever before, representing 17 countries.

Throughout the show’s history supers have been modelling must-have lingerie, those fabulously bejewelled bras, the most expensive being the $15 million one worn by Gisele Bündchen, and of course those Angel wings. The event, which has been held in cities all around the world including Miami, Paris, and London, is also known for bringing out mega performances by artists like Kanye West and Rihanna.

Lais Ribeiro

Katy Perry and Gigi Hadid weren’t able to attend, and Alessandra Ambrosio walked in wings for the last time, but there were lots of upbeat moments from the 2017 runway. It welcomed newcomers like Estelle Chen as well, as those making a comeback, including Karlie Kloss and Candice Swanepoel. There were also four fantastic performances from Harry Styles, Grammy Award-winner Miguel, who enjoyed the kisses the models blew his way, Leslie Odom Jr. and Chinese pop sensation Jane Zhang.

Brazilian Lais Ribeiro stole the show in a $2millioln solid gold, yellow sapphire and blue topaz Fantasy Bra featuring 6,000 gemstones by Mouawad. Then, of course, there was the expected full gamut of gorgeous wings. Bella Hadid and Lily Aldridge strutted their stuff in mainly blue ones, while we saw lots of multi-coloured creations featuring anything from pom poms to feathers. Gold wings, which looked amazing on Vanessa Moody and Blanca Padilla, were also big thanks to the focus on Grecian-inspired lingerie. Other big lingerie themes included bright colours, punk and African designs. The models also wowed in thigh-high boots, from Adriana Lima taking the lace-up trend to new heights to Cindy Bruna’s patterned ones.

While there was lots of amusement during the show, with Hadid even seen happily dancing away as confetti fell around her, the after-party, which always provides a glitzy celebratory end, was where the models really let their hair down. Whether they changed into dresses that seemed to echo the lingerie they had just modelled or chose soirée-ready ensembles that were eye-catching for other reasons, their off-duty style can only be described as bold. Shimmery or silky, what the Angels donned to party the night away proves they aren’t afraid to spread their sartorial wings off the catwalk too. The VIPs who were lucky enough to attend the secret party also had a chance to hit the pink carpet dressed to the nines.
