The City of Lights Shines Ever So Brightly during L’oréal Paris Show

For their first show ever during Paris Fashion Week, L’Oréal embraces diversity while showcasing multiple beauty and fashion looks and dazzling Chopard jewels.

This time around, beauty giant L’Oréal Paris found the exit door from backstage to give its first ever show during Paris Fashion Week. Other than the outstanding beauty, fashion and jewellery, we were thrilled to see the fun, positive and spontaneous mega show highlighting the power of diversity.

It was in the heart of the Champs-Élysées that L’Oréal’s celebrity brand ambassadors, regardless of size, age or personality, walked down the 60-metre catwalk, which ran from Château du Louvre to the Arche de la Défense. (By the way, the avenue being transformed into a catwalk was another first.) Whether it was the looks on supermodels like Irina Shayk or Doutzen Kroes, plus-sized Iskra Lawrence or young newcomer Thylane Blondeau, the show was an anthem to Parisian elegance. Singer and new mum Cheryl Cole also added pizzazz with a stunning multi-coloured shade of purple lipstick.

However, it was septuagenarians Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren who stole the show and shook up Paris Fashion Week. Mirren, 72, walked down the runway in wide-legged grey pleated pants and an audacious red lipstick, but it was the way she swang her black cane like a boss that really got people going. Fonda, who closed the show in a Balmain gown, showed how hip 79-year-olds can model while pointing at fans, giving the peace sign to photographers and joining the audience to offer Naomi Campbell a hug. And what better song to accompany her than The Chainsmokers’ “Paris?”

As well as the make-up and hair inspiration from L’Oréal Paris, there were 70 looks by 18 designers. And Chopard, a natural choice for the exceptional event, beautifully enhanced 60 of those looks with some of their most dazzling jewels. Pieces from iconic collections “Ice Cube,” “Rihanna ♥ Chopard,” and “Happy Hearts,” along with the latest treasures from its High Jewellery ateliers, highlighted why the Geneva-based maison is internationally renowned for its savoir faire and creativity. Incidentally, it was also the first time the jewellers showcased such a diverse array of creations, complementing so many different looks.

Caroline Scheufele, Chopards’ Co-President and Creative Director, who was in the front row alongside a host of celebrities, said: “A woman’s attire is never complete without jewellery. I was won over by this project and the idea of presenting Chopard creations in the most beautiful setting one could ever hope for: the Champs-Elysées, the beating heart of Paris. This incredible show, associating a brilliant global beauty genius with a magical place and the world’s most gorgeous women, is such a fine celebration of Parisian elegance!”
