Who Is Coming To Bottega Veneta After Daniel Lee’s Exit?

Having joined the luxury Italian fashion house as creative director in 2019 when he showcased his first ever collection for the brand, Daniel Lee and Bottega Veneta have just announced that are ending their relationship.

In an official statement, CEO of Bottega Veneta, Leo Rongone, said “I would like to thank Daniel for his dedication... He provided Bottega Veneta with a fresh perspective and a new sense of modernity, while remaining respectful of the brand’s 50-year heritage. The remarkable growth of the brand over the last three years bears testimony to the success of his creative work.”

Prior to joining Bottega Veneta in his first creative director position, Lee worked under Phoebe Philo at Celine as womenswear director. Daniel Lee’s approach to his first collection at Bottega Veneta received some criticism, as the aesthetic he created in his new position was seemingly less polished compared to his work at Celine. Though his ready-to-wear may have missed the mark, his accessories were an instant hit – most particularly his oversized soft leather pouch clutch bags, and exaggerated square toe footwear. A plethora of brands imitated the hit trends, which trickled down into high street and fast fashion rather quickly.

Following his raging success with his luxe yet modern accessories for the heritage Italian brand, Daniel Lee was nominated for 4 top prizes at the 2019 Fashion Awards and won all of them.

In his parting statement from Bottega Veneta, Lee said, “My time at Bottega Veneta has been an incredible experience. I am grateful to have worked with an exceptional and talented team and I am forever thankful to everyone who was part of creating our vision. Thank you to Francois-Henri Pinault for his support, and for the opportunity to be part of Bottega Veneta’s story.”

In the statement, it was also mentioned that “a new creative direction” for Bottega Veneta will be announced as soon as possible. Who do you think is Lee’s successor?
