The season is expected to begin on October 20, and will run till March 2022. The countdown was officially launched by Turki Al-Sheikh, who is the current chairman of the board of the General Entertainment Authority, and also chairman of Riyadh Season.

For anyone who is unaware, Riyadh Season is one of Saudi Arabia’s 11 seasons, a year-long calendar of events spanning entertainment, arts, culture, sports, and more, with Riyadh Season being perhaps the most popular of them all. Both Saudis and tourists flock to the capital for the event event, which plays host to a myriad of concerts, theatrical performances, and many other activities. When it comes to concerts and theaters, there are not only local and regional acts, but also international ones as well, bringing in some of the biggest names from across the globe to Saudi Arabia.

The first event was held in 2019 across 12 districts and 6 branches in Riyadh. Memorable highlights included appearances by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), an international concert featuring the K-Pop band BTS, theatrical performances, comic conventions, and more.

For Riyadh Season 2, the Kingdom is expecting a total of 20 million attendants throughout the event. There will be 70 Arabic concerts, 6 international concerts, 350 theater shows, 18 Arabic plays, and 6 international plays. This will also include 100 interactive activities, as well as 10 international exhibitions. Attendants will also be able to buy refreshments at 200 restaurants and 70 cafes. This year’s event will cover a grand total of 5.4 million square meters in space, across 14 districts, in the Saudi capital. Officially, the event is also seen as vital in job creations and contributing to the Kingdom’s revenues in line with Vision 2030.

In addition, the Riyadh Season Cup, which is a one-match football tournament, will be held in January 2022. It was announced that Paris Saint-Germain F.C will be going up against Al Hilal S.F.C and Al Nassr F.C, the region’s two largest clubs.

If you’re worried about the costs, you shouldn’t be. Riyadh Season 2 promises to be affordable for anyone hoping to attend. As quoted by Arab News, Al-Sheikh stated that pricing “will be cheaper than other countries by 30 - 40 percent, so rest assured we are making sure it’s suitable for everyone.”
