Fahima Falaknaz is the UAE’s first ever female Emirati boxer, and since representing her country alongside Hanan Ibrahim al Zyodi at the Asian Women’s Boxing Championship in 2019, Falaknaz has continued to inspire and encourage other women to take up the sport. In a bold move, Fahima has decided to offer up her skill set to the public as she is now teaching women-only boxing classes at the Real Boxing Only Gym in Dubai’s Al Quoz.
It wasn’t long ago that Muslim female boxers were prohibited from competing in their hijabs, and since that rule has been revoked, boxers such as Fahima Falaknaz have taken to the ring. She stated, “I am grateful that I have access to this sport,” as she spoke about how privileged she feels to be able to participate in boxing.
Now, wanting to share her experience, knowledge and skill, the history making Emirati boxer added, “Boxing isn’t about fighting. It is about becoming better than you were and learning the self-discipline to be that person every day, to focus on your own power.”
Soon to be teaching classes to other women like herself, Fahima is making the sport accessible and also empowering those who wish to learn. In a statement made by Michelle Kuehn, the Managing Director of the Real Boxing Only Gym, about Fahima coming on board, she says, “personally, I am excited as my mission has been to make boxing accessible for everyone – no one should be unable to box.”
The ladies-only classes will run every Saturday at the Real Boxing Only Gym. Attendees may book online or call 04 272 7774 to reserve their spot.
