This Saudi Designer’s Kaftan Collection For Ramadan Is Simply To Die For

The collection, an ode to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, is all about accessibility and ease of wear...

Ramadan is around the corner, and to celebrate the Holy Month, Deema Ajlani, who has been at the helm of her namesake label since 2016, has treated us to a capsule collection. The Bahrain-based label’s distinctive collection is inspired by the rich Arab culture and unites two close yet very unique countries in the region. As well as being an ode to her Saudi Arabian roots and a tribute to her adopted home of Bahrain, Ajlani’s new collection is an insight into how she depicts the modern Middle Eastern woman.

The modest, understated dresses and relaxed casual separates exemplify contemporary design. And the designer uses an intricate ensemble of threads, cuts, fabrics and cultural embellishments for that unique twist.

Keeping in mind the seasonally sensitive aesthetic of Ramadan, the collection comprises a multitude of kaftan styles, with each design available in two lengths, one for standard height and the other for the more petite. This practical design consideration means customers can avoid the need for adjustments, a common problem that Ajlani herself has often encountered as a modest dresser.

Ajlani’s journey into fashion began when she couldn’t find the kind of clothing she wanted, impelling her to start creating her own designs. The designer grew up living in a number of countries, and her experiences between borders generated her love of different hues and patterns, which comes across strongly in her creations. Additionally, her Arab influences can be detected via breezy and lose silhouettes, which are perfect for region’s climate. However, perhaps what really makes the fun and whimsical line stand out is that it reflects Ajlani’s identity, while using details like embroidery and hand beading.
