Saudi University Students Want You To Get Moving And Here’s How

The Saudi Sports For All Federation (SFA) is developing models to encourage community participation in fitness and physical activities

The Sports for All Challenge saw 18 teams of university students from both Saudi Arabia and the United States develop creative campaigns to encourage local communities to get active and take part in sports.

The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) announced the three winning teams in Sports for All Challenge at the Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh At Kingdom Centre following two rounds of judging. Jury included HRH Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud, SFA President HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, Al Johara Fallatah, founder of Al-Azem Academy, and Suleiman Al Kadi, Chief Operations Officer of Armah.

The winning teams, two from the KSA and one from the USA, were tasked with developing models that would increase community engagement in physical activities, competed for a top prize of US$10,000 for the winning team, and US$5,000 and US$3,000 for the second- and third-place teams, respectively. The SFA wanted to harness the talents and creativity of young people to create a new and dynamic approach.

Team ‘Endorphin’ proposed hosting a two-day camp for future sports leaders and encourage them to share their favorite sport with their community. The second winning team ‘Your Health in Your Steps’ conceptualized collaborating with local authorities to connect 35- to 50-year-old women and men with existing sports services and create new opportunities. Executing this project will strengthen community ties and help prevent chronic health issues, such as diabetes and obesity. Team ‘150 Minutes’ developed a regular weekly routine of 3 workouts a week amounting to 150 minutes for optimum health. Congratulations!

More on the SFA
The Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA), a proactive community sport and wellness organization founded to promote a healthy lifestyle in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aims to provide access to opportunities for all members of society to practice physical activity. Partnering with government organizations, sports delivery bodies, sports federations, and the wider public and private sector to achieve its goals, the SFA focuses on increasing physical activity and health and wellness metrics across the country. The increase of physical activity is achieved by advancing four strategic priorities: education; community and volunteering; fitness and wellbeing; and campaigns and promotion. It does this by designing and deploying recreational sports programs tailored for women, men, youth, the elderly and persons with disabilities across Saudi Arabia.
