The Lowdown on Cairo’s Biggest Fashion Event

International talents, including designers, influencers and celebrities, attended the 8th edition of the Cairo Fashion Festival.

The Egyptian capital was buzzing with fashion designers, influencers and celebrities from near and far during the 8th Cairo Fashion Festival (CFF8). And the guests at the city’s biggest fashion event, which took place from April 27-29 at the Cairo Festival City Mall’s Grand Amphitheatre, got to enjoy all the trends, culture, glamour and entertainment.

With the help of stylist Gehad Abdallah, designers were able to display their latest collections in an intimate setting during the fashion presentations. The creative bunch included Amira El- Gohary, Esraa Shahin and Pacinthe Badran, who won a fully covered short course at the London College of Fashion, CFF8’s official partner. Incidentally, Ahmed Hamdy was another lucky winner. He won a trip to England thanks to the competition held by DHL, the festival’s official logistics partner. DHL challenged the participants to design a dress or suit inspired by different countries, keeping in mind the colours and identity of the DHL logo.

Top designers were also able to showcase their signature pieces during the runway shows. The first designer was Bardess, followed by Satin Roses Collection by Amanda Kamhawy, who came all the way from New York. Then it was Sara Gabr’s turn to show her collection, which was inspired by colour’s physiological and spiritual significances. Eva Habashi Couture’s  "La Liberté" collection, which was inspired by birds and butterflies, was up after that. The second to last show at CFF8 saw Norine Farah, who dresses Egypt’s “It” girls and socialites, present her first ready-to-wear collection, which she named “Captured.” The collection featured warm landscape printed fabrics. Hama Hinawy, who has dressed the hottest celebrities and royalty, including Queen Rania, closed the show on a high note by presenting for the first time in Egypt.

The event, which included trends in hair and make-up sponsored by Kriss Beauty Salons & Make Up HQ, beauty sponsor Garnier, was hosted by radio presenter Zeinab Hegarty. The hostess donned pieces from Vivian Moawad’s spring/summer collection as she introduced each runway show. Prominent attendees included the actress Hana Shiha and singer and actor Hany Adel, who were Oppo’s guests of honour. Fashion guru Wadih El-Najjar was another exciting name on the guest list.
