Swiss Watch Brand Oris Enlists Yusra Mardini As Their Newest Ambassador

Yusra Mardini, the Syrian Olympic swimmer, will be present at the fourth annual Geneva Watch Days (GWD) event, which will run until September 2. She is joining forces with the Swiss watch brand Oris as their newest ambassador.

The brand introduced Mardini on Instagram, inviting people to learn about her remarkable journey. Having overcome immense challenges after fleeing the Syrian civil war, Yusra's inspiring story led her to qualify for the IOC Refugee Olympic Team. She is also an official goodwill ambassador for UNHCR, dedicated to making positive changes in people's lives. The partnership with Yusra and the Yusra Mardini Foundation aligns with Oris' mission to drive positive change.

Established in Hölstein, Switzerland, in 1904 by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian, Oris is a luxury watch brand that creates mechanical timepieces. These watches pay tribute to the rich history of watchmaking.

Unlike previous years, this year's GWD fair will be accessible to the public. Attendees can join guided tours to explore the latest releases from various watch brands. The inaugural GWD event took place in 2020, initiated by brands such as Breitling, Bvlgari, De Bethune, Gérald Genta, H. Moser & Cie., MB&F, Ulysse Nardin, and Urwerk.

Following the documentary "The Swimmers," which received a BAFTA nomination and showcased her life, Yusra Mardini shifted her focus to non-profit work. She launched the Yusra Mardini Foundation, an organization partnered with Oris. The foundation is committed to improving opportunities for sports and education for refugee communities worldwide. Additionally, it promotes refugee rights and offers direct assistance to athletes who are refugees.

In a conversation with Arab News in February, Mardini discussed her academic pursuits and plans for the foundation. She mentioned studying film and production at the University of Southern California in California. Alongside her studies, she actively engages in activities related to fashion and continues her work with UNHCR. Overall, Yusra expressed contentment with her multifaceted life.
