How To: Get Amal Clooney’s Venice Film Festival Beauty Look

Charlotte Tilbury lets us in on how to get the glamorous look she created for Amal Clooney’s Venice Film Festival appearance.

George and Amal Clooney

A relaxing vacation in Italy is never a bad idea. And the Clooney’s Lake Como estate has been the perfect spot for high-profile human rights lawyer Amal and her director and actor husband George to get some quality downtime with twins Ella and Alexander, who were born on June 6.

However, the doting duo took a break from their parenting duties to attend the premiere of “Suburbicon,” the film Clooney directed, co-produced and co-wrote, at the Venice Film Festival. While hitting the red carpet in the Italian city she got married in three years ago, Amal confirmed even new mums can take style to the next level. She looked stunning in a gorgeous lilac dress with Grecian-style bodice by Atelier Versace, curled faux bob and Lorraine Schwartz earrings. What’s more, the 39-year-old Lebanese-born beauty turned to the make-up artist who did her make-up for her wedding, Charlotte Tilbury. The artist to the stars tapped into her own quintessentially British make-up line to create a look that’s an ode to classic Hollywood screen sirens, but with a 2017 twist thanks to the modern colours.

If you’re looking for some inspiration for a big-night-out beauty look that suggests old-meets-new Hollywood, here’s exactly what Tilbury did.

To start, Tllbury chose the Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask to prep Clooney’s skin. This first step helps reduce wrinkles as well as smooth, brighten, lift and hydrate the skin. Then for a dewy and glowing effect, Tilbury applied some Magic Cream to Clooney’s face and neck in order to help plump and hydrate, thus creating the perfect canvas. It was then time to dab on some Magic Eye Rescue to firm, plump and brighten the eye area.

Once Clooney’s complexion was seen to, it was time to work on the base. Tilbury’s first move was to apply some Magic Foundation in shades 5 and 7 for picture-perfect, poreless skin. The make-up guru then went onto using The Retoucher concealer in 3 and Mini Miracle Eye Wand in 2 around the eyes and nose where needed, to hide any minor flaws.

To enhance Clooney’s already enviable cheekbones, Tilbury applied some Hollywood Contour Wand in medium/dark for a soft contour, and then buffed it in in with her Hollywood Complexion brush. Afterwards, Tilbury applied Hollywood Beauty Light Wand highlighter on top of the cheekbones for some added luminosity and radiance. For some added cheek colour, Tilbury then dabbed on some Beachstick in Moonbeach, Las Salinas and Formentera on the apples of Clooney’s cheeks, creating a pretty, youthful glow. Last but not least, Tilbury applied a bit of Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in shade 2, for impeccable skin, a brighter complexion and to control the shine.

For some subtle distinction to Clooney’s brows as well as added structure to her face, Tilbury used her Brow Lift in Supermodel to softly fill in the brows. Then, Tilbury continued highlighting the eyes by spreading on a wash of Eyes to Mesmerise cream eyeshadow in Marie Antoinette (an oyster gold colour). By lightly blending it out towards the eye socket, Tilbury created a sheen that made Clooney’s dark brown eyes pop. Next, Tilbury formed alluring feline flicks with Rock 'n' Kohl liquid eyeliner pencil in Barbarella Brown. To top off all the eye make-up, Tilbury used her Full Fat Lashes mascara for lots of flutter.

When it was time to work on the lips, Tilbury opted to go for a modern pinky-berry pout rather than a classic red lip. She created a custom colour by mixing two Matte Revolution lipsticks together. If you loved the perfect berry stain, just mix up some Love Liberty (berry matte pink) with The Queen (rich, cosy crown-jewel pink).
