This year hasn’t been ideal for regional culture vultures, but it will be ending on a high note with The Arts Club opening in Dubai. The Arts Club Dubai, the first international outpost of one of the most famous private members’ clubs in the world, is set to welcome lovers of art, fantastic dining, special events and good company by late 2020. And it will undoubtedly be just as elegant, glamorous, comfortable and fun as the renowned Mayfair spot.
The luxurious creative arts hub will open its doors in the new ICD Brookfield development in the heart of the DIFC area. And from stunning architecture and striking spaces to head-turning interiors, the beautiful new clubhouse is sure to become the hottest versatile meeting place for the well-heeled. Spread over four floors, the remarkable venue with a homey feel spans over 65,000 square feet. With architecture by British firm Foster & Partners, it is conceived to be the ideal spot for like-minded members to socialise, network, relax or even work throughout the day.
As well as a gorgeous 23,000 square foot roof terrace for events and a late-night spot for dancing and live music, The Arts Club Dubai will feature the well-known London brasserie and three restaurants. There will also be exquisite private dining rooms, outdoor terraces on all floors, meeting and exhibition spaces, eight craft cocktail bars and lounges, including a piano lounge. A rooftop cigar room, with a walk-in humidor and personalised storage, and a library are also included in the set up.
The plush interior design, said to be the ultimate blend of past and present, with a rich and sophisticated colour palette, strong textures and playful patterns, is by an unnamed Milan-based studio. And as expected, one of the most stunning aspects is the permanent contemporary art collection, along with the changing art exhibitions. With the London venue focusing on British artists, it is most probable the Dubai Arts Club will focus on work from regional creatives.
Just like in London, carefully tailored events programmes will play a central part of club life. Members will have the opportunity to join in weekly events, including debates, artist studio visits, panel discussions, live music and lots more.
The Arts Club Dubai is already accepting membership applications, with prospective members expected to be based in Dubai, the GCC and throughout the Middle East and Asia. There are three categories available: Full, Spouse and Young, with the latter applying to those aged under 30. And new members will be asked to pay a one-off joining fee (except for married couples) and an annual subscription. Additionally, there is an International Membership option, which can be added to each category, allowing Dubai and London members access to both clubs. Members of the second planned overseas outpost in LA will also be able to benefit from the International Membership possibility.
About The Arts Club
The Arts Club was originally founded in 1863 by important literary figures to “provide a haven for those people who had professional or amateur relationships with the Arts, Literature or Sciences.” It swiftly became a hideaway for creative minds and savvy businessmen who enjoyed getting together and participating in events.
In 1896, the club relocated from Hanover Square to the present 18th Century townhouse at 40 Dover Street. It has managed to survive through WWW I and II, despite a hit during the 1940 Blitz.
Famous past members include novelist Charles Dickens, artist James McNeill Whistler and composer Paolo Tosti, while actress Gwyneth Paltrow and designer Stella McCartney are among current board members.
