Mohammad Al-Harthi on Advertising in a Digital Era

The University of Business and Technology awarded "Sayidaty" in recognition of the publishing powerhouse's contribution to media, regionally and globally.

Mohammad Al-Harthi, Editor-in-Chief of "Sayidaty", "Al Jamila" and About Her, was welcomed by the dean, students, and other faculty members at The Jeddah College of Advertising, a college established at the University of Business and Technology, where Al-Harthi delivered a lecture on advertising and new media.

During the interactive lecture, Al-Harthy discussed modern advertising and today’s consumer culture, highlighting the challenges and triumphs Sayidaty encountered during the transitional phase from traditional publishing to new media.

Advertising in a Digital Age
Al-Harthi emphasised the importance of advertising, the impact of ethical and unethical advertising, other data-driven, content marketing strategies and the prospects of advertising in the age of social media. "Studies and research indicate that over the next three years, companies will allocate up to 50% of their budgets towards digital advertising on social media," he said.

Al-Harthi credits Sayidaty's success to its ability to adapt and invest in a digital age. “We wanted to reach readers and touch them at their core, and to do so, we had to adapt and quickly evolve from a print medium to a new digital medium,” he added. “We implemented strategies to reinvent print media for the modern world, and embraced the digital era with new online platforms to give readers a brand new vivid experience.” This success has been very transparent as Sayidaty continues to hold top spot as the world's biggest Arabic Women's Lifestyle magazine and website. The company recently swooped eight awards at the 2017 WAN-IFRA Middle East Digital Media Awards.

Al-Harthi was presented with the emblem of the College in recognition of Sayidaty's achievement and contribution to media before accompanying the Dean, Dr. Abdullah, on a tour around the College's different departments and studios.

The Jeddah College of Advertising
The Jeddah College of Advertising offers students the opportunity to study Advertising in programs that focus on hands-on applications and training rather than theoretical studies alone. The study programs are equivalent to those being taught in the United Kingdom but have been adapted to accommodate the Saudi Higher Education system.

In addition to a Bachelor's degree in Advertising from the Ministry of Higher Education, the college also offers a Certificate of Advertising from New York, and is recognized globally. "A large proportion of our graduates find work immediately, and many start their own business and have proved to be very successful in their careers", Dr. Abdullah says.
