The Lipstick Colours To Wear Next Season

It may take a while, but winter is coming (back) so here’s a sneak peek of the lipstick colours you’ll be whipping out when it does…

During the recent fashion weeks, lipstick colours on the runways in New York, London, Milan and Paris ranged from courageous, vibrant hues to goth- like dark shades. Basically, it’s more or less about individual choices and making a statement the way you want.

Dashes Of Colour
Quite a lot of shows saw designers take the bold red route, including Osman, Topshop Unique and Jason Wu. Some of the models strutting in Mark Badgley and James Mischka’s elegant and feminine comeback show also sported daring matte lips. Some designers opted for a strong glossy finish, though, like Vanessa Seward.

Other hues we saw, like Temperley London’s fresh pink, H&M’s gorgeous pinky-purple selection and the magenta the Novis girls rocked, could just as easily be in your spring cosmetic bag. There were also a couple of standout looks like Preen by Thornton Bregazzi’s smudged lips, the metal lip trimmings at Balmain and Grace Lee’s blotted red lips at the Rosie Assoulin and Public School shows.

Dangerously Dark
Solemn and moody lipsticks did make a mark on the catwalks as well. Philipp Plein’s dramatic statement look is a good example. At Yohji Yamamoto’s show, which radiated with Samurai vibes, we even saw models with black lips, just like we did at Adeam’s.

Marques’Almeida, Alice + Olivia and La Perla also featured super dark lips. Dim reds featured too, with the warm red liner Pat McGrath used on Valentino’s models and Val Garland’s shiny crimson lips for Giambattista Valli. Incidentally, some of Valli’s models had bare lips, which was another trend seen in quite a few shows. What’s more, if you loved the earthy brown lipsticks that were in circa 1990s, designers like Bottega Veneta and Jenny Packham are making sure they’ll be having a great comeback.
