Recreate Rihanna’s Met Gala Beauty Look At Home with These Easy Steps

Rihanna’s intense purple smokey eye, frosty pink lip and very heavenly highlighter looked amazing with her papal ensemble.

 Rihanna at the Met Gala

Rihanna always manages to shut down the red carpet at the annual Met Gala, making her the unofficial Queen of the event that opens new Costume Institute exhibits at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. (Think of the unconventional Comme des Garçons look she wore last year or that lavish yellow fur-triimmed robe the year before.) The “Wild Thoughts” singer did it once again on May 7 with her twist on the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme. Rihanna went all out, dressing as an actual female pope, which the Vatican has never had. The icon wore a pearl and jewel-encrusted Maison Margiela robe, which featured a corset mini dress under a full skirt, with a show-stopping matching bishop’s hat.

As co-host, alongside Amal Clooney and Donatella Versace, RiRi had to turn it up a notch with the make-up as well. So metallic highlighter, resulting in glowing cheekbones, a rose-gold metallic lip gloss and a dark plum-tinged heavy smokey eye to set the pink off and create added drama was the only way to go for the “Ocean’s 8” actress. Needless to say, her beauty look, along with slicked down sideburns, complemented her papal mitre and necklace and hoop earrings by Maria Tash perfectly.

With make-up mogul (and soon-to-be a lingerie designer) on her extensive resume, the 30-year-old Barbadian understandably used all her very own products. Rihanna founded Fenty Beauty, which caters to a wide range of skin tones, “so that women everywhere would be included.”

Here’s how you can recreate the make-up created by Priscilla Ono, a Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Global Makeup Artist, who has a star-studded client list.

1- To create the base Ono started with Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Primer to prevent shine and help the make-up blend in smoothly. The celebrity make-up artist then applied Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 370 for a soft matte flawless complexion. For more contour and definition, Ono went on to use Match Stix Matte Skinstick in Truffle, which is a few shades deeper than Rihanna’s complexion.

2- For the lips, Ono swiped on Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Spanked with extra shimmer on top for a subtle sheen.

3- As a finishing touch, the California native applied Invisimatte Blotting Powder on the t-zone to absorb excess shine and diffuse pores for an instantly filtered appearance.
